Severe rot in a support post in a crawl space .
People come up with all sorts of ways to support floor systems. These bricks were a poor choice.
This gap visible next to the footing is where the house slid approximately 2" in the Nisqually earthquake of 2001.
This post in contact with the footing without a moisture barrier is wicking up water from the ground through the concrete. Eventually the post will decay.
