As a Seattle Home Inspector I have been asked to inspect a lot of weird things—-but never a bird bath.
Well, truthfully I wasn’t “specifically” asked to inspect a bird bath but when you come across one in the normal course of the inspection—you still have to inspect them.I have finally gone over the top in the level of detail of my inspections.
Without a downspout—this is essentially either/or a bird bath or stagnant pond for mosquitoes.
Lots of homes have these little decorative features that don’t really need gutters but are added none the less for “looks.” It would still be nice to have a way for the water to get out. Standing water in gutters can leak through the seams and result in water damage to the fascia behind the gutter.
Of course we could also talk about the poor roofing and flashing details related to this picture—-but this post is about the bird bath.
