Every summer—-as the days get hot, and the long legs come out in the sun to tan after a long winter in hiding, I am always in awe of the power such legs can have on my psyche.
Fixing these images in our minds has been the focus of art and especially photography since we started fooling around with the smoke on the walls of our caves. These archetypal images from the caves that have lasted through the ages give testament to how primal these forces are and also remind us of how close to the caves we still are.
The other day I found myself stunned—-and speechless—-by such legs as they stood out, silhouetted, against an immense sea of white painted brick. As a home inspector and photographer I love finding intense beauty in the back yards and homes that I inspect.
No matter what the background,
what the setting,
or the time of day—-
—-legs are legs.

What else can one do but succumb to their power.

I saw my first Black Widow a few weeks back on a porch in Murphy NC. What a sight. Gloss black with a vivid red heart shape. Happy I didn’t meet up with it in the crawlspace. Owner said it has been around for a while.
Dennis, I see a lot of spiders that “look” a bit like black widows but they always turn out to be Steatoda Grossa
