While I have seen rooms with locks that could only be unlocked from the outside that have made me scratch my head as to who or what was being locked in, finding this lock on the outside of the bathroom door made me chuckle.

Being new construction it was simply a case of the installer putting the handles on the wrong side.
While the lockset will be functional in the strictest of definition of “functional,” it most likely would not to meet the “purposeful” function of the lockset, which would be to provide privacy in the bathroom to the reader on the inside—not the outside. The installation was just one of those little things that gets by somehow—and a pretty simple thing to fix. Returning the library to its “purposeful function.”
You just never know when you are going to have something “private” to read.
