
In the following picture on the left, you should be able to see a little area of different texture. If it does not jump out at you take a look at the picture on the right where I have outlined the area in red.
This is indicative of something.
It is indicative of where a support post has been removed. As you can see this is a walkway and someone probably didn’t like having to negotiate around the post all the time, so they moved it to the location to the right in the picture.
The problem with this solution is that it leaves the beam above undersized for the job it has to do in supporting the side of the deck above. A beefier beam can be installed or perhaps the support post should be put back in place and better arrangements for a walkway made.
In the next pictures you can see the long cantilever of the beam and in the picture on the right the little red mark where the post used to attach.
While it was easy to remove the post and relocate it—it was clearly more difficult to think of the consequences.
